Requirements
Online EQUATIONS supports Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Google Chrome 14 or higher, Firefox 6 or higher, and Safari 3 or higher.
You must have Java 5 (also known as Java 1.5) or higher installed.
If you have problems:
- Your browser must accept cookies from onlineequations.org.
- Your firewall must allow connections to onlineequations.org port 3000.
- To check your Java version in Windows: Use the Start menu to open the control panel, open the Java controls, and click the About button. If the Java controls are not present, or your java version is lower than version 5, visit: http://www.java.com/getjava to get a new version.
- To check your Java version in Mac OS X: Launch Terminal app (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal). Type "java -version" (without quotes). If your version is lower than version 1.5, go to Software Update (under the Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen).
Create Account
To request an account invitation for Online EQUATIONS® please
submit this short form. The email field is required because it is used to activate your account and to notify you of upcoming tournament activity. We will not share your email address with any third-party without your consent.
Check the email account you provided for our invitation to register your account. The invitation will come under the following heading:

Once you receive this invitation, there are three steps to registering and activating your account:
- Go to the Registration Page:
Click on the link in the invitation email you receive to go to the Account Registration page.
- Fill out and submit the Registration Form:
To register, you will first be prompted to accept an agreement for responsible use and then be taken to the registration form. Fill out the registration form carefully, making sure your email and time zone are correct. Be sure to write down the username and password (case-sensitive) you select as you fill out the form. (You will not see your password written anywhere again.) When you are sure the form is correct, press submit.
Submitting the registration form will cause the program to take you to the Online EQUATIONS home page where there will be a notice telling you to check your email for a new message containing an activation link. This step was done to verify that the email you submitted in the registration form was correct so that all subsequent game and tournament notifications will go to the right place for you.

This message contains an activation link that, when clicked, will activate your account and take you to the Online EQUATIONS home page where you will be informed that you have successfully activated your account. Enter your username and password to login.
If you have forgotten or misspelled your password (case-sensitive), click on the statement "I forgot my password" (next to the Login button) and you can reset your password. Always write the new password down.
Login & Play
To log into the site, point your browser to
http://onlineequations.org, and provide your username and password in the upper right, and press the Login button.
To play a pickup game, press the "Pickup Rounds" link in the menu bar directly below the top banner on the home page. This will take you to the pickup round page. Then click on the big yellow "Play Pickup Round" button. This will open the Online EQUATIONS matchmaker in your browser. If this fails to load, please go back and check your Java version.
Once you are in the Matchmaker Lobby, there are two ways to get into a round with other players. The simplest way is to click on the Auto Round Finder tab at the top of the page. This will bring up the Round Finder button. Clicking on this button will put you into a round when there are two other players who have also clicked on the Auto Round Finder/Round Finder tab and button.
The second method to get into a round is to use the Custom Rounds tab and follow the instructions below. This method depends upon other players who are in the Matchmaker Lobby deciding to manually join the custom round you create. You can chat with them the encourage people to join.
To create a custom round of EQUATIONS, press the "Make Round" button in the main menu of the matchmaker window. This will open a dialog box where you can enter a name for your round, and you then select what type of round you would like to play off the drop down menu (such as Default, 3+ scoring or Timerless round.)
Once you make the Round, you will see your newly created Round in the "Rounds awaiting players" list in the matchmaker. Select your round by clicking on its name in the matchmaker window, and then click the "Join Round" button, which will add your name to the list of Players in that Round and open the Round Lobby window.
At this point, the other players with whom you want to play should themselves select your round, and click the "Join Round" button. Once all the players are listed in the Round Lobby with a red "X" by their name, each player should click on the red X to show they are ready to start. Clicking on the red X will change it to a green checkmark. When all players have green checkmarks indicating that they are ready, one person needs to click the "Start Round" button to begin the first match.
At any point while testing the matchmaker or the EQUATIONS game, please use the "Bug" button to report any problems or concerns.
