For example:
2^3=8
so...
2L8=3
By 2L8, we're asking "To what power would I have to raise 2 for it to equal 8?"
You can get fancy and make fractions with log as well, as in:
9L3 = 1/2, as 9^(1/2)=3 (the square root is the same as raising something to the 1/2 power)
If you check the help section of the web site, there is more formal explanation, and some handy charts to use while playing.
